Everyone in the home care industry knows this business, while incredibly rewarding, comes with its own brand of chaos.
You’re navigating:
- Compliance headaches
- Revolving-door caregiver turnover
- Clients with needs
- Endless fires to put out at all hours of the day
Some days it feels like you’re just surviving.
Other days… like you’re one NCNS (No-call-No-show) away from a breakdown.
I get it. I lived that life for years.
The “Muck” Is Real (But You Don’t Have to Stay There)
Running a home care business can feel like a never-ending uphill climb.
And the worst part? Your team feels it too. Your energy becomes their atmosphere.
Then it happens.
The caregiver no-call, no-show for your best 24/7 client.
The last-minute death.
The good caregiver quitting out of nowhere.
Your chest tightens. Your heart sinks. The voice in your head says:
“Here we go again…”
And just like that, you’re in what I call “the muck.”
It’s Okay to Feel It. It’s Not Okay to Stay There.
You might be thinking:
“But this is A LOT. I don’t know how to NOT stress out!”
I hear you. When I ran my home care agency, I felt:
- The frustration of hitting roadblocks despite doing “everything right”
- The anxiety of not knowing if caregivers would show up
- The helplessness of being blamed for things out of your control
- The overwhelm of nonstop chaos
And here’s the truth: Those feelings are normal.
But living in them? That’s toxic to your business, your team, and your future.
And it doesn’t serve you one bit. Sure….feel your feelings…but don’t get stuck there.
Tony Robbins Says: “Your State Is Everything”
One of the most powerful lessons I’ve ever learned came from Tony Robbins:
“Your mental and emotional state determines your behavior and your behavior determines your results.”
Meaning?
It’s not the situation, it’s how you respond to the situation that creates your outcomes.
Your state… your mood, mindset, energy is like the stage you perform on.
If the stage is broken, your performance will be too.
Vibes Aren’t Just a Trend, They’re Leadership
You’ve probably heard the phrase “good vibes only.” Maybe you’ve even rolled your eyes at it.
But here’s the thing: It’s real.
Science confirms that humans operate at vibrational frequencies.
- Positive emotions like gratitude, joy, compassion → high frequency
- Negative emotions like fear, anger, guilt → low frequency
And when you operate from low frequency?
You’re:
- More reactive
- Less strategic
- Emotionally drained
- And, worst of all, magnetizing more problems to you
Remember: Like attracts like.
If your energy is stuck in panic, frustration, or defeat, guess what your team will feel?
Guess how you’ll show up in your marketing?
Guess what kind of clients you’ll attract?
Exactly.
Shift the Story, Change the Game
Your mindset is shaped by the story you tell yourself. Let’s compare:
- Negative Stories
- “No one respects my time.”
- “My team doesn’t care.”
- “We’re never going to grow.”
- “I have the worst luck.”
- Empowering Stories
- “This is tough, but we’ll figure it out.”
- “They may not have realized how this affected me time to reset expectations.”
- “I’m learning and improving every day.”
- “Even this has something to teach me.”
As Wayne Dyer said:
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
Your story creates your state. Your state shapes your actions.
Your actions build your future.
Feel the Feeling… Then Move On
Let’s be clear: Feeling emotions is not weakness.
It’s healthy to feel frustration, sadness, even fear.
But wallowing in them is different.
Getting hit is inevitable. Staying down is a choice.
Ask yourself in those moments:
- “What’s the lesson here?”
- “What’s within my control?”
- “Who do I want to be in this moment?”
- “How can I grow from this?”
The moment you ask a better question, your brain gives you a better answer. That’s neuroscience, not fluff.
Challenges Are Training
Tony Robbins calls life’s problems “gifts from the universe.”
Why? Because every challenge is preparing you for the next level of leadership.
I’m still practicing this today as I’ve yet to master it…
….But I’m moving closer when I start to ask myself “how is this for more”….”what can I learn from this experience?
Your business won’t grow past you.
If you’re constantly overwhelmed, reactive, and full of self-doubt your company will mirror that.
But when you operate from a higher state, focused, grounded, proactive… you become a magnet for better results.
The lesson is simple:
You can’t lead a calm, high-performing team from a chaotic, low-performing state.
Final Thoughts: The Choice Is Yours
This industry is not for the faint of heart. But it’s for those who have a heart.
It’s hard. It’s personal. It’s emotional. But it’s also one of the most impactful businesses you can run.
And the better you master your mindset, the more peace and profit you’ll create.
So the next time you’re in the muck, remember:
You’re not stuck…. you’re just being invited to level up.
You can either:
- Dwell in the drama
- Or rise into your role as the CEO your team needs
The choice? ……………Always yours.
